This project began with a charming Albion cottage that a young, growing family had quickly outgrown. Working with Jessica Hardwick Architecture, we raised the house and built in underneath, effectively doubling the floor plan without losing the character that makes the street what it is.
From the footpath the home still reads as a cottage, with the original facade and cast iron balustrade intact. Behind it, the new lower level added bedrooms, wardrobes, an ensuite and further bathrooms, a living room, laundry, generous storage, and a proper entry.
At the rear, a covered alfresco with its own kitchen opens onto the yard and pool, with an upper deck above catching the breeze.
The interior palette is warm and tactile — terracotta tiling, patterned mosaic feature walls, timber joinery and aged brass tapware — sitting comfortably alongside the home’s original bones.
